Best Gift Ever – A Jewneric Channuka Contest: ENDED

As we approach the end of the Gregorian year we find many reasons and occasions to give.  Whether you celebrate Christmas, Kwanzaa or Channuka we all need to think about ways to show gratitude to those around us.  That spirit is felt in the business world too, where a thank you note or gift is a valuable continuing relationship or building device. I read this post by Andy Sernovitz who always point out great ...

Sheraton free-overnight-stay promotion excludes observant Jews

From October 6 to October 9, Sheraton will be giving customers the opportunity to win a free overnight stay at one of 86 recently renovated Sheraton hotels across the United States and Canada. The free overnight stays will be on a single night, Friday, October 23. By only allowing the free overnight stays on a Friday, Sheraton is excluding observant Jews from participating in this promotion. I just sent the following message about this ...

ParnasaFest: Jewish Networking During Bad Economic Times

Dear Jewneric readers, I, along with Dani Klein and Susanne Goldstone, have started a new project called ParnasaFest. The idea is for Jews to network both in person, and using social media, to find jobs, careers, or just make new connections. During such an awful economic time, there is a huge need for these sort of "help your brother out" sort of events. The Facebook group lists all past and future ParnasaFest events: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=52056874652 Last week we ...

A Jeff Pulver Breakfast in Tel Aviv

Yesterday morning, while going through the 150 or so feeds I try to keep up with, I came upon this video. A report on Jeff Pulver's breaksfast in Tel Aviv pans and interviews some of the attendees. Low and behold if two Jewneric authors weren't there... Ezra Butler and Brian Blum. Pulver, a big name in technology and telecommunications, has ...

Agriprocessors: Why my family has stopped buying red meat

My wife and I have recently made the decision that, at least for the time being, we will no longer buy any Kosher butchered red meat (although we will probably continue to eat red meat out of our house and buy pre-prepared fleishig foods). I am writing this article to explain our decision, to (a) clarify my thought processes for my own benefit, (b) share those thought processes for others who might benefit from them, and (c) strengthen my resolve to follow through on our decision (think of this as my public declaration of our "no meat resolution"). Our decision is motivated by three considerations: We have doubts about the kashrus at Agriprocessors. We have doubts about the integrity of the kashrus of the meat-packing industry in general. The business practices at Agriprocessors are sufficiently abhorrent to warrant a boycott regardless of whatever issues there might be surrounding their kashrus, and it is currently difficult for us to buy meat that wasn't produced at Agriprocessors. ...

What do you do when someone you know gets a new job?

Over the past number of years I have seen numerous friends and networking partners get new jobs. I usually send an email congratulating them, if I know the industry I will ask if I can help. I almost always let them know to feel free to ask for an introduction through linkedin. But in most cases I wasn’t very proactive in trying to drive them business. About 3 months ago I started with a new ...

The Jewish Leadership Series: Jeremy Epstein

Jewneric recently had the opportunity to speak with Jeremy Epstein, Word of Mouth & Social Media Consultant and a prominent Jewish leader. We asked him a series of questions to help us better understand and appreciate their significant contributions to our community. With a brother who is younger by 19 months, Jeremy’s mom was convinced that “one of them wouldn’t make it to adulthood.” Well, he did, and being the eldest of 5 children, all graduates of the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD, is one of his life’s most formative experiences. Jeremy also spent 1 year in Germany studying the Holocaust (at the German taxpayer expense!) and then 2 years in Japan. Since, he’s worked for companies big (Microsoft) and small (2-time entrepreneur) and loves to blog on marketing (www.jer979.com) and whatever strikes his fancy (http://jer979.blogspot.com). ...
