Best Gift Ever – A Jewneric Channuka Contest: ENDED

Posted Dec 16, 2009 by Dave Weinberg

As we approach the end of the Gregorian year we find many reasons and occasions to give.  Whether you celebrate Christmas, Kwanzaa or Channuka we all need to think about ways to show gratitude to those around us.  That spirit is felt in the business world too, where a thank you note or gift is a valuable continuing relationship or building device.

I read this post by Andy Sernovitz who always point out great out-of-the-box giveaways, mementos and gifts that help drive word of mouth.  Andy's company, GasPedal sends out over-sized M&M bags, the kind you can pick up at Costco, to clients as a thank you.

Our favorite thank-you gift is a giant 52 oz. bag of M&M’s. It’s ridiculously huge.

We get a better response to this gift than when we send fancy gift baskets, expensive cheesecakes, or gourmet desserts.

Why? Because it’s surprising.

A silly-sized bag of your favorite candy, even if it only costs $8 at Costco, is worth talking about. It’s totally weird and makes you smile.

A standard corporate gift, no matter how nice, is something anyone can buy and everyone does. Not remarkable. Be interesting or be invisible.

What was the most impressive, memorable or odd gift you ever received or gave?

To say thank you to our readers, new and old, Jewneric will be awarding one of you with a special thank you gift from us.  Respond in the comments below to be eligible to win. Contest ends Sunday, December 20 at 12:01am.

The best gift I ever got was season of Seinfeld on DVD. It let me relive those fantastic moments over and over again. Plus. with the added bonus features, "nothing" really became "something".

The greatest gift I have ever gotten would have to be an Ipod touch but the craziest gift I have even gotten was a Napoleon Dynamite Silk Tie.

The best gift I ever tried to give was a turtle with the glass case and all the stuff one needs for turtle fun times. I raised the $400 and everything for it, but then my friend decided he didn't want it.

On an unrelated note, I'm told turtle stew is delicious.

Best gift I have ever given: Remote controlled model WWII tank that shoots BBs.

Weirdest gift ever received: Bacon salt, for graduating college.

One of my favorite gifts is a binary clock. It has an array of LEDs that represent the time as three binary numbers. It's a great conversation starter.
